Discovered underneath a plane at MacDill Air Force Base in April, this massive 12 foot gator has been safely relocated to Gatorama Inc. in Palmdale. Renamed “Major MacDill”, the gator’s saga began on April 22 when he was found under a KC-135 Stratotanker.
After initially being released into the Hillsborough River by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC), the persistent gator reappeared at the base near a medical building on May 15. MacDill’s Facebook posts humorously dubbed him “Airman Ally Gator” and put him “in charge of the complaint department.”
Finally, wildlife officials brought Major MacDill to Gatorama, a more permanent and suitable home. “This grand giant of an alligator from MacDill Air Force Base was captured for a second time and now he is making his home here at Gatorama in Palmdale.” Major MacDill’s impressive size of 12 feet, 4 inches, is sure to show an impressive story about resilience and strength.
Florida residents are reminded that alligator sightings are common and to keep a safe distance from these powerful creatures, and most importantly, DO NOT FEED the alligators, especially during breeding season when they are more active.
If you are looking to have an up close and personal experience with a gator, don’t try it at home or on your walk by the lake! Come down to Gatorama to meet Major MacDill and all his new friends in a safe, educational environment.
